AI that keeps people in charge.

SparkTales is a Canadian generative AI company. Our flagship, Lyra, turns a passage, a lesson or a legend into an illustrated story you can explore. We also build AI apps and tools, and bring AI into the systems teams already run.

Lyra

Lyra is the studio software behind every SparkTales story. AI does the heavy lifting; people make the calls that matter.

The Lyra approach

SparkTales layers plus Frontier AI equals Lyra. An illustrative overview. Published by a person.

Our ethos

Human in the loop. Safe by design.

Keeping a person in the loop isn’t a feature we add at the end. It’s how SparkTales builds AI, starting with Lyra.

Illustrative interface: the studio workspace for Jesus Calms the Storm (Mark 4:35–41), with a four-step builder, a visual canon of Peter, Sea of Galilee, Fishing boat, Storybook painterly, the story’s 8 painted pages, and review agents checking continuity, style, outfits, text, sources, metadata, with one flag: Page 5: Peter’s cloak colour differs from his reference. A “Send to private review” button waits for a person.

Specialist checks on every page

Review agents look for continuity, style, outfit, text, source and metadata problems, page by page. They flag; editors decide.

The tool our team uses to make every story. The interface shown is illustrative and still changing.

Build with us

We build for others too.

The systems behind our own products are available for the right projects, built to the same human-guided standard.

Tell us what you’re building
  1. 01

    License Lyra

Put Lyra, our story engine, to work on your own stories: license it for your team, or have us run it for you, from source material to reviewed, illustrated stories and everything around them.

    • Your characters, places and art style as reusable reference packs
    • Illustrated stories at more than one reading level, with quizzes and activities

    A custom AI app

Agents and AI tools for your team or your customers, built the way we build our own products: clear permissions, visible costs and a person signing off before anything goes out.

    Includes

    • Agents that work in real tools
    • The model that fits the job, hosted or local
    • Review and approval built in
Lyra’s review agents, one of them flagging a page for an editor, and a sign-off that only a person can send.

    AI inside your systems

Forward-deployed engineering: we join your team, connect models and agents to the data and tools you already run, design in permissions, costs and approvals, then hand it over.

    Includes

    • Engineers working alongside your team
    • Agents connected to your data, tools and APIs
    • Evaluation before launch, then a clear handover
An agent connected to a team’s docs, ticketing, database and internal API: it may read each one, writing needs a person’s approval, and its request to update a ticket waits for someone to approve it, with its estimated cost shown inside its limit.

Questions

Talk to us
  • Lyra is the SparkTales story engine: the software we use to turn a passage, a lesson or a legend into an illustrated story you can explore, with reference art for consistency, review agents that check every page, and a person’s sign-off before anything is published.

  • If you have stories worth telling well, such as a collection, a curriculum or a tradition, and want them illustrated consistently at more than one reading level with activities alongside, Lyra lets a small team do what would otherwise take a much larger one, without giving up review.

  • Yes. You can license Lyra for your team, or have us run it for you, from source material to reviewed, illustrated stories and everything around them.

    Talk to us
  • A person. Every run is costed and confirmed before it starts, review agents flag problems and editors decide what changes, and publishing is a separate step a person takes.

  • Characters, places, props and art styles are defined once as reusable reference packs. Every illustration is anchored to them, and the visual review checks each page against the approved references.

  • Quizzes, colouring pages, seek-and-find games, artifact records with 3D models, links to the Bible map, and narration.

  • No. Lyra isn’t tied to one tradition. It makes Bible stories today, and it was built for mythology, history, classics and folklore too.

  • Yes. Storybook Bible is built with Lyra, Locus is our free, open-source Mac workspace for AI agents, and FieldKit is open-source, self-hosted AI support. We also build AI apps and tools for others, and bring AI into the systems teams already run.

  • Write to hello@sparktales.io and tell us what you’re working on: a story collection, an app, or a system you’d like to bring AI into.

How we work

We pair capable AI systems with human judgment and craft.

The systems let a small team build far more than it otherwise could. People decide what the work means, who it is for and what goes out with our name on it.

SparkTales brings together software engineering, research, visual design and traditional storytelling. Technology should not make stories feel less human. It should help us notice more of what makes them matter.
